According to education ministry officials, Shantisree Dhulipudi Pandit, who is currently the vice-chancellor of Savitribai Phule University, has been appointed as the vice-chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University. Shantisree will be the first woman vice-chancellor of JNU.
A senior education ministry official said his appointment would be for five years. M Jagadesh Kumar, who was holding the charge of acting VC at JNU after his five-year term ended last year, was appointed as the chairman of the University Grants Commission last week.

Shantisree Dhulipudi Pandit was born on 15 July 1962 in the city of Saint Petersburg, Russia, she is currently serving as the Vice-Chancellor of Savitribai Phule University.
Her father, Dr. Dhulipudi Anjanayulu is a writer and journalist, who is also a retired civil servant, and her mother, Prof. Mulamoodi Adilakshmi was a Professor of Tamil and Telugu at the Leningrad Oriental Faculty Department [USSR].
Apart from her high educational qualification, Pandit also has good command over languages like Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Hindi, Sanskrit, English and can understand Kannada, Malayalam, and Konkani.

Shantisree Dhulipudi did her early studies in Madras school. She stood first in the state of Tamil Nadu in the 12th examination.
He holds a Gold Medalist degree in History and Social Psychology from Presidency College, Madras, and a Masters in Political Science from the same college.
His stint with Jawaharlal Nehru University began when he obtained a pre-doctoral degree in M.Phil in International Relations from JNU in 1986 and secured the first rank in the university.
His doctorate in International Relations was a thesis on “Parliament and Foreign Policy in India – Nehru Years”, which he completed at the young age of 28. In addition, he has also studied Peace and Conflict Studies from Uppsala University in Sweden.

Dr. Shantisree has also served as a member of think tanks, government departments, and advisory boards in the country. In 2005, he was elected as a member of the National Committee on Reconciliation.
She has also served as a member of the Global India Foundation, a national-level think tank. She was a member of the UGC Committee on Higher Education and Indicators from 2006-2008 and a member of the Executive Committee of the Indian Association for American Studies [IAAS] from 2010-2013.
In his academic career spanning over thirty years, he has guided around 29 PhDs, while also serving as an external consultant in several universities across India.
She has taught several papers on International Politics in India, Political Sociology, and Peace and Conflict Studies at Goa University.

As a writer, Shantisree Dhulipudi Pandit has authored four books – Parliament and Foreign Policy in India (1990), Restructuring Environmental Governance in Asia-Ethics and Policy (2003).
In addition, he has co-authored two books with Dr. Rimali Basu – 'Cultural Diplomacy: Buddhism and India's Look East Policy' and 'Retreat of the State: Effects of Drug Trafficking in Asia in 2012'.

During her long years in academia, Dr. Pandit has been awarded the Women Teacher Award from Yuva Manch for Gandhian Studies in 2003, the Veer Savarkar Award in Pune. In addition, she has been awarded the Viztex Prize for Women Leaders in the Next Decade for Education.
